I’m a huge fan of slogan tees and the playfulness that they can add to any look. They fall right in line with what I consider the main point of fashion and that is, self expression. I don’t know about you, but I’ll definitely be adding a few more to my collection this season. Check out the items I’ve rounded up below and don’t forget to click the images to shop my picks. Until next time!!

Though I’m typically not the biggest fan of over-exposed trends in regards to specific looks or individual pieces, I don’t mind making an exception if I feel like I can add my own twist and make the look representative of my personal style. That being said the sports-luxe trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon and these contrast side panel trousers, which in my opinion are one of the most popular items for this particular style, can be found almost EVERYWHERE. Though I did like them, I was hesitant to get the typical wide-legged version with buttons down the sides because I felt that they were a bit too casual and would go out of style a lot sooner. Luckily, after a bit of patience and research, I came across a more tailored option that I felt could be worn in more versatile settings in addition to just being trendy. I’m so happy I waited because I found that these pants serve as a great alternative for work as well as play. I also tend to prefer the option of dressing a more sophisticated garment down, than trying to dress up a casual piece—it just seems easier to me. In efforts to give my bottoms that “cool girl edge,” I found a slogan tee that could convey my playful vibe. Though I could’ve opted to go a more upscale route, I wanted to keep the look fairly effortless and carefree. Another ongoing trend from last year that seems to be taking the fashion world by storm is adding pops of bold colors. Red accessories have appeared to be the most prevalent and though I was initially leaning towards a pair of booties, these patent kitten-heel sling backs provided the perfect classic feminine touch that were unlike any pair of heels I currently own. Given the cooler temperatures that have started to become more consistent recently, it was a no-brainer for me to reach for my cropped leather jacket as an added layer. Finally, though the day was a bit gloomy, I added my round white sunnies to complete this look. I was definitely pleased with how this ensemble turned out despite being an extremely popular street-style look at the moment. While I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself and avid follower of trends, I don’t shy away from looks especially if I feel like they fit in with my wardrobe aesthetic. Let me know in the comments below if you don’t mind experimenting with popular trends, or if you ultimately choose to stay away from them. Until next time!

T-shirt dresses are probably one of the easiest garments to throw on when you’re in a rush or simply don’t feel like putting the energy into styling a complex look. Though simple, these pieces come in a wide range of styles that make it easy to make a statement, while still remaining comfortable and casual. Check out the pieces I’ve rounded up below, and don’t forget to click the images to shop my picks. Until next time!

First of all, I’d like to say I was quite proud of myself for coming up with such a witty title. Secondly, I am still beyond shocked that I actually styled this look AND liked it enough to make a blog post about it. Up until the moment I saw this piece, I really had no interest in the color green. Apart from the occasional olive garment you could catch me rocking during the Fall, all other “green-ish” shades I tend to stay away from. That said, this kelly green dress managed to completely change my opinion in just a few hours. During this particular shopping trip, I managed to walk past this floral tee about three times before I finally gave in and tried it on and to be honest, there wasn’t much to it. I wish I could say that I was completely blown away by this piece but I just saw it as one of those easy, “I have nothing to wear” items. After a bit more browsing, I decided to just get it in hopes that I’d be able to work it into my wardrobe at some point. By the time I got home and began laying out my outfits for this shoot, a light bulb went off in my mind and the look instantly came together.  For casual shapeless garments like this, it can be easy to dress them down and let them swallow your frame. However, being the lover of contrast that I am, I chose to elevate this look with a pair of metallic, rose gold heeled sandals. These shoes were absolutely perfect for this outfit and really made the pink and yellow details in the flowers pop. Because I was rocking such a bold print, I didn’t really accessorize much outside of my everyday studs and go-to fringe backpack. Though quite simple, I still feel like this look makes a major statement and I’m definitely happy I decided to purchase this dress. I guess green isn’t so bad after all– until next time!

Colorful jeans were a pretty huge trend in the early 2000’s and I can distinctly recall my closet becoming a rainbow of denim, especially during my high school years. Once again however, we are seeing yet another moment in fashion history resurface and fall right back into our wardrobes. Since last year, you may have noticed that yellow has become a very popular statement color, but it’s fellow primary hue, red, isn’t far behind. I never would’ve guessed that I’d find myself gravitating towards a pair of bright red trousers, but I couldn’t resist these fiery beauties. Recently, I feel like I’ve been on a straight leg raw-edge denim binge, so it didn’t take much convincing for me to realize that I needed yet another pair. During the same weekend that I purchased these pants, I stumbled upon these gorgeous black and white buckled heels. It’s so funny sometimes how you can go into a store knowing exactly what you came for, and walk out with something totally different. That said, I personally feel like I made an even better decision and was thrilled when I saw how amazing these pieces looked together. When searching for a top however, I found myself at a standstill. I was completely torn with the style and direction I wanted to go in, so to make things easy I decided on a more “vintage” item that I hold very dear to my heart. I bought this Jimmy Hendrix tee during my first trip to LA when I was only 16 and it still remains one of my favorite items! Even through all of the trends and fashion “rule book” changes over the years, this t-shirt has always found a way to compliment my style and I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. To finish off this look I accessorized with a gunmetal rhinestone choker and a white slogan clutch for a bit of lighthearted interest. I loved how this look turned out and I definitely plan on making these red hot jeans a wardrobe staple this season. Fashion and style in many ways are a universal reflection of our society, and because of that we sometimes see trends appear that directly correlate with the climate of the culture. For decades women’s rights have been a huge topic in politics, and recently it seems as though we have entered a new age of feminism where the notion of “girl power” is at an all time high. That said, it is no surprise that slogan tees with feminist messages have been quite popular among various designers and brands. As a young woman I fully understand and can identify a lot of the challenges we still face to this day in terms of inequality, and because of that I was hesitant to jump on this trend and perpetuate turning this ongoing fight into a shallow fashion statement. After much thought however, I realized that many creatives use their artistic self expression to take a stand and when I purchased this t-shirt I was determined to wear it proudly. I’ve had this distressed denim midi skirt for a few months now so I was absolutely thrilled when I finally found a top to pair it with. Because both pieces are pretty casual, I decided to dress up the look by pairing it with white pumps instead of my go-to sneakers (which I would still totally wear any day, lol). For accessories, I threw on a simple black choker and my prescription frames, but honestly still felt like something was missing. Up until minutes before I was going to shoot this look I felt like I needed a bag or a piece of outerwear to complete it. Finally, I decided to keep it simple and let the ensemble speak for itself. In this case, less was definitely more and I was quite pleased with how it turned out. Leave a comment below on your thoughts about worldly events overlapping with fashion. Until next time!

Choker tees have become quite popular in the realm of  edgy streetstyle lately. I personally love them because they fall right in line with the distressed trend while still adding a casual and effortless vibe to any look. Being that we are in the midst of New York Fashion Week, I decided to create a look that I felt represented this exciting time. In my opinion, this is the moment to have the most fun experimenting with different clothing and letting your style speak for itself while showcasing exactly who you are. For me, I had a bit of trouble piecing this look together (believe it or not) as it is slightly out of my comfort zone. Of course, I’ve layered dresses over tops before and worn sneakers with more formal pieces, but there was something about this look that I struggled with. I guess I could say taking a previously worn New Year’s Eve dress and transforming it into a daytime look was a bit bolder than what I’m used to. That said, my main priority and what I feel like is most important when styling yourself, is making sure that you feel comfortable, confident, and authentic. You should never feel like you are putting on a costume or wearing something just because it’s on trend. In the end, I found a way to make this look work for me by toning it down with black accessories and really leaving the dress as the focal piece. I used my leather jacket as sort of a “safety blanket” (lol) and paired it with my most worn choker for some additional familiarity. In efforts to provide a bit more contrast however, I opted for my white backpack instead of my traditional black one. By the time I left my apartment to shoot, I can honestly say I was quite pleased with how this look turned out. From the differing textures, to the mix of casual and more elegant garments, everything seemed to come together pretty seamlessly. Now, my last suggestion in tackling NYFW or just dressing for every day life, is to simply have fun with it because at the end of the day, “life’s too short to wear boring clothes! Until next time!

When getting dressed, while I am a lover of intricate outfits, I sometimes forget that basic pieces can also be just as chic. On the days where it seems almost impossible to find something to wear, a simple t-shirt can be a lifesaver. For this look I decided to pair an over-sized, mesh detail slogan tee, with leather biker trousers for a relaxed, yet edgy look. While this ensemble could easily be worn with flats, booties, or sneakers, I chose to add a little more detail with these iridescent single-strap heeled sandals. Throw on a nice fall coat, and you automatically look put together and effortless with hardly any time or energy wasted. For me, looks like these are pretty much my weekend uniform. Whether you are running errands, shopping around, or meeting friends for brunch you can never quite go wrong with this look. I think the key is to choose pieces that are simple but have subtle, eye catching details. Don’t forget, it IS possible to be comfortable and make a statement, so give it a try!
