In all honesty, 2019 was not one of my best. Though it did start strong, I found myself getting distracted and derailed from a few of the goals I had set out to accomplish. I lost a few friends, shed a lot of tears, and at one point felt as if I was losing sight of who I was as an individual. That being said, it wasn’t all bad. I probably did more traveling than ever this year and pushed myself to experience events that in previous years I had only witnessed on social media. I can’t say that I’m sad to leave this year behind (not that I really have a choice), but in the last few months I have really put forth the effort into making a plan of action for where I want to see myself in this next decade. I’ve made my mistakes, I’ve acknowledged the lessons, and now it’s time to put in the work to ensure that nothing but growth occurs from here on out. For me this is not just a new year, it’s a new beginning and opportunity to place myself into the spaces I want to be in order to succeed and live the life I have always dreamed of. For me, the silver lining is knowing that it’s not too late to make it happen.

In regards to my outfit, this was simply a case of wanting to get the most bang for my buck. The silver dress featured here, which I’m absolutely obsessed with, was actually what I wore for my 27th birthday this year. Unfortunately, I was having so much fun celebrating, I didn’t get a “post-worthy” photo in my opinion. Luckily, with the holiday season right around the corner (my birthday is in September), I knew I’d have a reason to pull this gorgeous frock back out of my closet; and what better occasion than NYE?! As with most of my festive looks this year, I decided to incorporate more casual elements instead of just opting for the classic formal attire that is usually to be expected. Because the dress was such a statement on it’s own, I didn’t mind pairing it with edgier pieces to create a funky, unexpected juxtaposition. The first garment I added was a sheer metallic top which I felt added a nice layer of dimension. Secondly, though I initially wore closed toe pumps with this outfit, I chose to switch it up to matching heeled sandals and pair them with Nike socks for a more “sports-luxe” twist. Lastly, I threw on my leather cream puffer jacket which I’ve also been loving and wearing nonstop this season. For me, aside from coordinating with the ensemble as a whole, adding this coat was a refreshing change from the faux fur options I typically gravitate towards. For one final touch, I reached for my silver jewelry and classic Dior clutch and was ready to dance my way into 2020. I don’t know about you, but I am definitely ready to see what this next decade has in store for me as well as A Styled Mind. We are approaching the fifth year anniversary, and I couldn’t be more grateful for your support and interest in my brand. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and Happy New Year!!! <3

Finding new ways to make a statement with your outfit especially during the Winter season can be quite challenging, and that’s why generally my shoe choices and outerwear tend to become the focal point. Puffer jackets have always been a practical street style essential, but lately they’ve been popping up on everyone’s “must-haves” list. Below I’ve rounded up a few styles that I would totally wear to look stylish while facing the harsh winds and below freezing temperatures. Don’t forget to click the images to shop my picks & until next time!

As if I wasn’t obsessed with jumpsuits enough, a new variation has surfaced which has in turn revamped my excitement and need to further add to my collection. Recently, “boiler suits” have become the new trendiest item in street-style, perfect for giving off all the effortlessly cool vibes we all know and love. The only difference I’ve seen between this garment and other statement one-pieces, is the casual and relaxed fit coupled with a somewhat utilitarian structure. That being said, they are just as easy to style and are perfect for those on the go days when outfit preparation is not feasible. Because pieces like this are essentially an all-in-one outfit, I was faced with the challenge of creating a look that was slightly more interesting than just throwing it on straight from the hanger. To solve this issue, I immediately knew that layering would be my best bet. Though reaching for a turtleneck was my first instinct, I decided to try a different style of top that would still highlight the suit’s design. It didn’t take long before my attention was captured by a neutral colored knit, accented with a zip closure along the neck. Believe it or not, this is my first sweater in this style and I couldn’t help but get a sense of the 70’s after putting it on. To add a bit more texture, I decided to showcase my new booties in a bold muti-colored snake print. I love these shoes because aside from being complete head turners, they can literally go with anything due to the burgundy, cream, blue, and grey tones throughout the pattern. At this point, while my look was nearly complete, I still felt like something was missing. Outwear isn’t something I feature often on my blog, but due to the severe temperatures we’ve been facing lately, I felt it was absolutely necessary. I’ve been on the hunt for a shorter puffer jacket this season and just when I thought I had missed my chance, I stumbled upon this heather grey beauty! Aside from the color, the overall cut, fabric, and style perfectly aligned with the theme of this ensemble in the most practical yet chic way. Let me know in the comments your favorite piece(s) from this look and what staple items you’ve been reaching for to brave this 2019 Winter. Until next time!

As I knew this was going to be my first blog post of the Spring, I wanted to make sure I styled something weather appropriate and fun. I like this look because it is composed pretty evenly of items that I already had in my closet, and a couple new pieces to freshen things up. I recently bought this shirt-dress and really didn’t think much about posting it on my blog; that is, until I found this belt. Within the last 6 months, I’ve really seen the corset belt trend take off. Whether paired over a t-shirt, blazer, or dress, you name it; this trend is definitely not slowing down anytime soon. Personally, I’ve never been much of a belt person but I also never shy away from trying new things. When I saw this piece during one of my shopping trips, I instantly envisioned this top and began building the ensemble in my mind. I decided on the white accessory because aside from moving into the warmer months, I felt like it provided more of a challenge than the usual black options. I kept the rest of the look pretty simple and sleek with black leather leggings and pumps. As we all know I love adding dimension with different textures, and the smooth matte finish against the lighter fabric of the top provided the perfect contrast. At this point, I knew the look was almost complete but I still felt like there were a few elements missing. I decided to play off of the navy stripes in the shirt as well, and added a dark denim choker for a bit of edge and a light puffer jacket as an extra layer. In all honesty I totally forgot about this jacket, which I’ve had since college, but the navy blue sheen provided the most amazing final touch to tie this look together. I must say, after shooting this outfit, I am beyond excited to see what inspiring style and trends this season brings. Until next time!
