As we reflect on these last few days of 2023, a lot of us find ourselves moving through a wave of emotions. All of the “shoulda, woulda, coulda’s,” potential disappointment regarding the things we didn’t accomplish, and maybe even a bit of regret for some of the decisions we ultimately made. All in all, I think it’s important to feel all of it so that we can hopefully move into a space of acceptance and contentment as we step into the year ahead; we deserve it. Now with that being said, the shopping season is still in full swing! While we may have gotten our gift giving out of the way, the post Xmas sales have just begun and honestly, it’s not a bad time to see if there’s any last minute pieces you can check off your wish-list for a discounted price! Over the last 2 months, I’ve noticed a void in my wardrobe that has kept me vigilantly on the hunt for a floor-grazing, black, oversized, double-breasted wool coat. Though this seems like a pretty common garment to come across especially during the colder months, there are SO many options from tons of brands, each having their own subtle differences, that made this quest harder than expected. Unexpectedly however, I happened to be scrolling through IG and one of my favorite influencers had actually partnered with the brand and was modeling this piece for the collection that was dropping that same day! So after rushing to the website and refreshing my browser all morning, waiting for the item to be available for purchase, I finally secured the outerwear staple I had been craving! Even prior to receiving it, my vision was to layer it over more feminine pieces to play up the juxtaposition of the menswear structure. JPG has been having quite a moment with all of the “body illusion” dresses this year and before I jumped on the trend, I wanted to take my time and wait for something that I could truly see being a quality addition to my wardrobe. Because of the bold print, I knew I would most likely opt for something neutral and I finally found the perfect frock! I didn’t even realize how sparkly the metallic stripes would be until I saw it in person, and the contrast of the brown panels really made the design come to life! I kept my accessories simple while highlighting the silver accents with my jewelry and clutch. Despite my NYE plans looking fairly relaxed thus far, this is definitely an outfit I would wear if I planned to go out; would you??? Comment below your favorite featured item and until next time!

When I think of fringe, the first thing that usually comes to mind is Western-inspired styles and motifs. Lately I’ve been seeing this detail adorning a variety of garments such as leather and suede jackets, flannel shirts, and even boots! Though this particular feature has not come up frequently in my own wardrobe, I unintentionally decided to give it a try. As most of us are well aware, “shackets” have probably become the most popular piece bought this year. I never jump on the trend bandwagon immediately, but instead make a note of it and wait to see if I come across an item that aligns with my style. To be honest, I had seen quite a few of these garments in color ways and patterns that I liked but for some reason I was still hesitant to pull the trigger; that is, until recently. During an impromptu mall trip, I stumbled across this plaid over-shirt and knew I had to have it. Unlike the others I had seen, the fringe accents really stood out to me and I instantly thought of the dimension and movement it would add to any ensemble I paired it with. Because this was now the standout piece to my look, I wanted to compliment it with simple items that would easily coordinate without taking away from it’s glory. I’ve recently been accumulating a lot more thin knits for layering and I may actually be obsessed! These turtlenecks are one of the easiest things for me to style this time of year, and I probably wear them at least 3 times a week. I’ve also really been into neutral colors like mink an beige, so when I found one in that color, I knew it would be a perfect match with my new outerwear addition. Since the top half of my outfit was already pretty eye-catching, I chose to ground the bottom half with an old pair of faux leather paper bag waist shorts and my OTK (over-the-knee) boots. As a final touch, to compliment the silver studs on my belt, I grabbed my favorite clutch and some simple earrings for a bit of sparkle. I would absolutely consider this a more casual holiday look especially for those (which should be most of us) celebrating this year’s festivities from home. I love this look because it’s a true representation of how I intend my 2018 to be: bold, bright, and all about business (with a little bit of fun sprinkled in of course, lol). This was an extremely fitting outfit to kick off the New Year as I actually did wear this on January 1st to a social event I attended. As I get older, I’m definitely learning to appreciate the value of a classic suit. In my opinion, it provides a sense of empowerment and sophistication that I don’t seem to find with any other pieces. I feel like in the past, suits were always associated with people who were boring or “stiff,” but lately I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the playfulness of the more non-traditional coordinates that experiment with various colors, textures, and patterns. Due to the harsh weather conditions we’ve been experiencing in NYC, I didn’t see myself doing that much for New Year’s weekend. That being said, I still wanted to secure a few looks just in case and this metallic number ended up being the perfect option! As we know, the holiday season is all about the glitz and though I wanted to be appropriately festive and stand out just as much, I wasn’t in the mood to freeze in a skimpy dress that I would probably never wear again. Though I opted to go the more “tailored” route in this silver ensemble, I still felt as though my look was sophisticated, chic, and eye-catching to say the least. Because the suit itself was clearly the “showstopper,” I decided to keep it simple with black accessories. I found an old leather cami which served as a modest and minimal layering piece for underneath my blazer and threw on the most comfortable heeled sandals I own. Its’s rare that I shoot looks with bags these days, but I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to showcase my new clutch which also doubles as a lipstick case and was definitely one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year! Lastly, for a final touch of glam, I added a pair of black and silver chandelier earrings which tied all the elements of this look together beautifully. Recently I’ve become more fond  of these boss-like looks, and definitely plan to incorporate more of them into my style in 2018. Here’s to an amazing year of great health, style, and success; until next time!
