There are so many perks when it comes to holidays; the long weekends, time off from work, quality time to spend with friends and loved ones, and of course THE SALES! Below I’ve rounded up some July 4th sales that are still going on even though the fireworks and barbecues may have ended. Work off those hot dogs and burgers with some retail therapy below; until next time!

It’s absolutely insane how fast NYFW always seems to creep up on me, take over my life, and then just like that come to an end like nothing ever happened. For me, this season started off pretty mellow with a fun show called “Texture On The Runway” which highlighted both fashion and hairstyles representative of the natural hair brands that wanted to showcase their creativity on the catwalk. This show was all about unity and embracing the unique features that make us all beautiful. I left this event feeling empowered and appreciated by a room full of men/women I didn’t even know, and I wouldn’t have chosen to start my hectic week any other way!

By day 2 the ball began rolling and I was ready to bolt out of work to attend my first official designer shows of the week. Because I have a 9-5, I have to be incredibly strategic with how I plan my schedule so that I don’t become overwhelmed, yet am still able to fit in as many shows as possible. The first show was by the brand, “Afffair,” and the pieces were stunning to say the least! There was a lot of intricate beading and sequins on almost every piece, paired with delicate textures like chiffon which really created a beautiful contrast of structure and movement on the runway. The second presentation was by a more modern brand called, “Athanasiou,” and honestly it was probably one of the most memorable for me. I loved how each piece came with an element of surprise which included either a cheeky slogan, or an elaborate portrait of what appeared to be Renaissance art. There were several pieces from this collection I could’ve easily seen myself styling and turning heads along the way!

Day 3 was my busiest day as well as my most anticipated because it started off with a brand that I was dying to see, “Taoray Wang.” I loved EVERY. SINGLE. THING. about this show! From the tailored co-ords, bright colors, funky belts, and blazers galore, this show displayed feminine chic in the best way possible! This was also the first day I was really able to connect and network with a few fellow blogger babes that I never really get a chance to see outside of this environment. While attending shows maybe the highlight of NYFW, meeting new people and sharing experiences is really the most important part, and what will keep your brand expanding in the long run.

If I had to give another crucial piece of advice for tackling NYFW, I would say, take advantage of the breaks between shows! While it is easy to get caught up in wanting to get the best photos and making sure you are seen as much as possible, forgetting to eat can quickly turn this chaotic time into a nightmare if you don’t make sure to refuel. I personally make it a point to set a budget for food expenses as well as travel because I engage in both more than usual during this time of year. [Sidebar: If you’re in the city I highly recommend trying BEC, whether its fashion week or not; your taste buds will thank me later!] My last few shows of the day were a part of a collective in which several designers (at least 4-5) showcase their clothing lines and/or jewelry on the runway consecutively. I enjoy these shows because you get to see a variety of brands in one location without having to worry about rushing to the next venue across town. The downside to these shows however, is that because there are so many styles coming at you at once, it can be hard to process all of the fine details. All in all, I was beyond satisfied with my first three days of fashion week and I look forward to recapping the following days in part 2! Until next time!

I can’t lie, this look was the definition of last minute. It gets challenging sometimes, having to constantly put together new looks and content that stands out while still being of quality. With that being said though, I absolutely LOVE how this shoot turned out! I wouldn’t take this approach with everything, but sometimes things that take the least amount of planning have a way of falling together perfectly. Though very little thought was given to create this look, I knew I wanted to showcase something bright. My usual formula for styling looks is to find one garment that I want to focus on and build the rest of the ensemble around it. I’ve had these bright orange cigarette trousers (and basically every other item in this look) for a couple of years now and they still make an eye catching statement whenever I wear them. Since the bottom half of this look was so “loud” I chose to keep the top neutral with an oatmeal colored mock neck crop top and an over sized vintage denim jacket. To complete the look and tie it all together, I broke out my snake print pumps and my orange tinted, mirrored aviator glasses. I like that this look has a very comfortable and casual vibe to it, while still being striking, effortless, and chic. I’m not saying that I’ve completely given up on pre-planning my blog outfits, but I am slightly relieved to know that even if I’m going through a mental “style block,”  the outcome can still be great! Until next time!

I feel like “burgundy” is the color probably most associated with the fall season. It almost happens on cue; as soon as the leaves begin to change, everything from lipstick and nail-polish to coats and shoes become this beautiful deep wine color. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m a huge fan of the hue and am certainly not complaining; which brings me to this look. I absolutely ADORE this 3-d patterned neck tie blouse, so much, that I decided to use burgundy as my primary color to accentuate it. In true “ASM” fashion, I decided to contrast the dainty top with an edgy, leather pleated mini skirt. In order to keep the look weather appropriate, I kept my legs warm with my thick cotton thigh-high socks and ankle boots. The booties were the perfect addition because they also contained hints of burgundy, just visible enough to tie the entire look together; and with a quick swipe of lipstick I was out the door! I have to say, while this was one of my more feminine looks, I quite enjoyed tapping into my “girly”side for a change. Without discrediting the olives, navys, rusts, and tans of the color spectrum, burgundy is definitely a favorite of mine when it comes to fall. What’s yours??!

Though I haven’t been to many sample sales, I felt as though I hit the jackpot with this one! On this particular Sunday during New York fashion week, I started my day hitting up the Hugo Boss sample sale with my dad for some father/daughter bonding time. As we entered into the building and walked up the stairs into the giant warehouse I was amazed at the endless rows of racks full of clothes and the tables stocked with designer shoes that literally made my heart melt. I made my rounds and quickly developed a personal haul in my arms when I turned around and saw a young woman trying on the most AMAZING COAT!  I immediately ditched my pile and ran to the racks to find my size. When I tried it on I fell in love. This beautiful military style wool coat was everything I needed for the winter. It was constructed with the softest wool I have ever felt and it’s asymmetrical plaid pattern and gold buckles kept it unique and eye-catching without being too gaudy and over the top. Needless to say, I had to have it and the rest is history!
